Background
The National Center for Scientific Research (CNIC), was the first major institution in Cuba created to address different fields of science, in order to shake up the traditional criteria of academic science and make it a productive force. Dedicated to scientific research, with a high development in the areas of natural sciences, biomedical and technology, the center's mission is to solve scientific rigor and quality biomedical and technological problems of economic importance and / or social development of the country and create products advanced competitiveness in the global market. To ensure this, he works full cycle, i.e. the research, production and marketing of its main products. The training of human resources is an integral part of this mission. The multidisciplinary nature of scientific activity, teaching and production is secured by a multicentric structure composed of different units.
Since its inception, CNIC has formed more than 25 000 specialists and within it have formed 7 research centers of excellence that currently have significant scientific and productive. In order to compare their results regularly with their counterparts the world, has organized 14 scientific events, which have traditionally attended by hundreds of Cuban and foreign delegates, including prestigious scientific personalities. In the past 10 years researchers of the IASB have posted a total of 1634 journal articles (813 international and 821 national), of which 415 in journals of high impact factor that is referenced in the database of the Web Sciences.
The center publishes two scientific Journals, the Revista CENIC, Biological Sciences and Chemistry with 40 volumes published every four months and recorded and indexed by prestigious Directories, BD, and considered among the highest quality and updating in the country. Only in the last 5 years, have been edited and published 352 scientific articles.
As part of the celebrations for the 40th Anniversary of it foundation, from June 27th to 30th, 2005, held the XIV International Scientific Meeting at the International Conference Center, Ciudad de La Habana, Cuba. Took part in this 859 delegates from 41 countries, some of which were represented by delegations, including important personalities of the scientific and academic activity in several countries.
In the next edition of the XV International Scientific Congress CNIC 2010, to be held from June 28th to July 1st, 2010, will meet professionals and technicians of various specialties for the presentation and discussion of results and experiences within the framework of the challenges posed by the progress of scientific development and new technologies.
